A big question we get asked all the time is "Can we leave our awning out all the time?" The answer is a BIG resounding NO. Your awning is like a flat parachute. When the wind gets up and catches that "parachute", it is going to fly. When it does go, it typically tears the canvas or bends the roller tube, or flings the entire awning on top of your roof.
If you are under your awning, or perhaps next door and within sight of your awning, you can get to it quick enough to get it put away when the wind gets up. If you are more than a couple of minutes away, you are taking a chance.
